The Oracle - 10 in Music
For those who love lists, our new Series “The Oracle” cover Music, Fashion & Art. So let´s get it started with the likes of Marina and the Diamonds, Lissy Trulie, The Sound of Arrows, Lovvers and Ellie Goulding.
The following selection isn´t in a special order, but I predict them for a breakthrough in 2010.
Lissy Trulie - The Rock Queen
Rock and Guitar Music isn´t Dead. The Gossip proved this with an overwhelming sucess with “Music for Men” and especially their Single “Heavy Cross”, which is a worldwide Chartbreaker. Lissy Trulie got all the Skills and Style for Rocks next Queen. Her latest EP was acclaimed by the Rolling Stone Magazine:
“With a tomboy growl and Television–ish guitar hooks, her first EP brings enough attitude to put art stars in their place. ‘The notches in your belt make your pants tight!’ she taunts. Then she makes those tight pants move to a bruising cover of Hot Chip’s “Ready for the Floor.” The girl can rock an after–after party.”
Recommending: Listen to “Boy Boy” & “Self taught Learner” at Myspace.
The Sound of Arrows - Widescreen Pop from the Neverending Story
No Kids, the eighties aren´t over. With the Electro Pop of 2009, which was leaded by Lady Gaga and La Roux (sorry Little Boots, we´ve expected much more from you) it seems that in 2010 we get more atmosphere, more cinematic soundtrack pop. The Swedish Boys of “The Sound of Arrows” fit into this and with their Single “Into the Clouds”, they brought some tears in the eyes of those who love unicorns and elfs. Thanks for that guys, but now it is time to release an Album.
Recommending: Listen to “Into the Clouds” at their Myspace.
Marina and the Diamonds - A sorta fairytale in her voice
Enough said, here, and here. 2010 will be her year, like Florence Welsh did in 2009. It´s time for her Debut Album, I bloody wait for it.
Recommending: Listen to “I´m not a robot” at her Myspace.
Lovvers - Music on the Lost Highway
Less Widescreen epic, more Arthouse. They call themself “Lovvers” and head over from the UK to be the next great Whichita Recordings Band (home of Bloc Party). They will not become the next Bloc Party, but the first Lovvers. According their Label:
Lovvers are a strange mix of music’s forgotten / blank generation, re-calling the spirit of Darby Crashes’ Germs, the weirdness of Flipper, Wipers style pop and the careless attitude of The Replacements; at one show a girl was so confused / annoyed that she wrote to KERRANG! describing this music as highly offensive, wanting to erase them from her mind.
Recommending: Listen to “Ocd go go girls” at their Myspace.
Ellie Goulding - Gold with Starsmith
Another upcoming Star in Female Pop. “Under the Sheets” was one of my most played Songs this Autumn and like Marina and the Diamonds, Ellie is on the Label which will dominate 2010, Neon Gold records. Think of Florence Welsh meets La Roux meets whatever. Really good pop.
Recommending: Listen to “Under the Sheets” at her Myspace.
Part two on Wednesday.
